Staff stories

Kay & Stacey

After more than 25 years with Wheeldon Brothers, Kay is preparing for a well-earned retirement. A much-loved and familiar face, she has played a huge part in the company’s success, known for her calm approach, efficiency and warm sense of humour. She leaves behind big shoes to fill, but we’re delighted that Stacey, someone equally special, is stepping into the role.

Stacey is no stranger to Wheeldon Brothers, having worked with the team in the past before deciding to return. Her experience, enthusiasm and genuine friendship with Kay have made the handover smooth and full of good spirit.

Outside of work, Kay enjoys planning her next cruise and savouring a glass of prosecco along the way, while Stacey’s time is happily filled with her family and home life. Both bring energy, care and a sense of fun to everything they do, perfectly reflecting the teamwork, warmth and dedication that make Wheeldon Brothers what it is.

Staff stories

Susan

At the heart of Wheeldon Brothers is Susan, our Financial Director, the woman who keeps everything – and everyone – running smoothly. She’s not just about the numbers; she’s about the people behind them, always working to nurture the friendly, family feel that defines the company.

Faith and community are a big part of her life. She volunteers as Treasurer for Bury Athletic Club, processes the wages at St Mary’s Church in Hawkshaw, and sings in the church choir. When she’s not helping others, she enjoys running, cycling, and always training for her next marathon.

A great manager and a natural leader, Susan proves that dedication and kindness can go hand in hand.

As General Manager at Wheeldon Brothers, I was brought in to strengthen our compliance and lift the company’s image. From day one, I’ve been struck by the dedication and honesty of the team here; they’re hardworking, straight-talking and genuinely committed to doing things properly. My role is to keep us moving in the right direction, but the people around me make that possible every day. It’s a pleasure to work with a team that takes real pride in what we do.

I’m the IT & Marketing Lead at Wheeldon Brothers, and what makes this workplace stand out is its professional, collaborative, and inclusive culture. Everyone’s skills are valued, and colleagues support each other to deliver work to a high standard. It’s a team I’m proud to be part of, focused on producing quality results and making a positive impact in our local community.

I started at Wheeldon Brothers in 2021 as a welder through an agency, and from day one I felt welcomed and supported. When I got my HGV licence, the company helped me train on driving artics, and now I’m trusted with the walking-floor work. My dad, Akhtar, also works here on the picking line, and we’ve both always been treated fairly and with respect. Each year I go back to Pakistan for a month to see family, and Wheeldons make it easy for me to take the time I need. It’s a friendly, supportive place to work, and I’m proud to be part of the team.

I first joined Wheeldon Brothers in 2015, starting on the weighbridge answering calls and supporting operations. After taking time off to start a family, I returned in a Health & Safety admin role and gradually became more involved in compliance. I’ve since helped the company achieve ISO 19001, BS EN 15713, and ISO 14001 accreditations, which sparked my interest in the field and led me to begin a Level 5 CIPD HR apprenticeship. I genuinely enjoy working here, I’ve always felt supported, encouraged to grow, and trusted with new responsibilities. It’s a great team, and I feel valued in what I do.
