Wheeldon Brothers power up with solar energy at Bury HQ

At Wheeldon Brothers, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our environmental impact while delivering reliable waste management services across the North West.

As part of this ongoing commitment, we’re proud to announce the installation of a state-of-the-art solar energy system at our head office in Bury. This investment will let us power our operations in a greener, more cost-effective way, passing the savings onto you!

Solar energy in action

Installed in August 2024, our new solar panels are already making a major impact on our business. In fact, over the past month, we’ve generated 1.29MWh of energy, and the system has produced a lifetime total of 2.73 MWh since installation.

That’s enough to power a small fleet of EVs or the average UK home for nearly a year! As of today, we’ve already produced 33kWh – and we’re only just getting started.

Our solar energy system is designed to maximise self-consumption, so we use as much of the electricity generated as possible. So far, 92% of the energy we produce stays within the business to power our day-to-day operations, while the remaining 8% is exported back to the grid.

Reducing emissions

By switching to solar power, we’ve already saved 538kg of CO2—equivalent to planting 9 trees or cutting 2,100 miles of car emissions. These numbers reflect our commitment to lowering our impact on the environment.

Why does this matter?

We’ve always thought it right to lead by example. As a waste management company, we see the direct impact of waste and energy consumption on the environment. Our solar installation cuts costs while supporting our goal of delivering sustainable services to our clients including skip hire.
