A roll on roll off skip, commonly known as a RoRo skip, is a large open-top container delivered and collected using a specialist hook lift vehicle. Instead of being lifted by chains like a traditional skip, it is rolled on and off the back of the lorry.

Our 35-40 yard roll on roll off container holds approximately 27 to 30.6 cubic metres of waste. That is the equivalent of roughly 350 to 440 standard bin bags, depending on the waste type.

40-Yard RoRo Weight Capacities

In the UK, the maximum legal weight for a 4-axle rigid skip truck (often used for large “RoRo” containers) is 32 tonnes.

When you account for the weight of the vehicle itself and the heavy-duty steel container, this leaves a payload capacity that averages out at approximately 14.5 tonnes of waste for a 40-yard skip.

Because of this 32-tonne limit, 40-yard skips are strictly for lightweight bulky waste (such as wood, plastic, or furniture). If you filled a 35–40-yard skip with bricks or soil, a hook-lift truck would not be able to lift the skip. This could result in a lost journey charge and the responsibility to remove enough waste to allow the skip to meet the legal weight limit would fall on the hirer.
